Kya – Six Months

We just returned from a two-week trip to the east coast to visit my family (hence the lateness of this post). We had a blast! Kya was able to spend lots of time with her grandparents, uncles, aunt, and cousin as well as meet many of mama’s good friends! I feel like she grew up so much during the trip. There were so many new people, new toys, and new places! She came back a different baby and much more expressive!

Kya weighs 15 lbs. 10 oz.! Her thighs are OH so chunky. Just the squishiest things ever! She is really good at sitting up (rarely falls over) and now prefers to play in that position. She still generally sleeps 7:00 – 7:00, but she went through a growth spurt in the last month resulting in some nighttime feedings. I didn’t mind! Extra cuddles from a girl who is becoming less cuddly over all. She has lengthened her naps over the last month as well. Mama is very happy about this. I get loads more done! She takes one 45-minute-ish nap in the morning,  a 1-2 hour midday nap and a 1-hour-ish late afternoon nap.  Lots of “-ish” because of course nothing is completely consistent with a baby!

Kya has enjoyed solid food since about five months old. At that point, we were mainly just playing with it and getting used to using a spoon. She is a pro now and enjoys breakfast and dinner (with breastmilk being her main nutrition still). She eats oatmeal, bananas, applesauce, pears, peaches, acorn squash, sweet potatoes, green beans, and peas. I make my own baby food using Wholesome Baby Food as my guide. It’s so easy and actually very fun!

We had my family’s Christmas while on vacation and Kya came back with several new things to play with. She definitely needed toys suited for her age since she was outgrowing her play gym and more basic baby toys. Here are some of the new toys she is having fun with!

B. One Two Squeeze Blocks

Melissa & Doug First Bead Maze

Melissa & Doug Rainbow Stacker

Munchkin Wind Up Swimming Penguin

Munchkin Ducky Hot Safety Bath

Munchkin Baby Bath Ball

Oribel PortaPlay Convertible Activity Center  (can’t wait to receive this in the mail!)

She received several new board books for Christmas. She is starting to “listen” to the stories instead of trying to eat the books! She was also given two small, plush baby dolls! They are adorable!

People told me the first year goes by fast. I didn’t really believe them initially, but now I do. We’re halfway through already! Where has my little baby gone?! Man, this is a fun stage. Kya provides us with endless entertainment 24/7. Her funny little personality is really shining.
