Sour Cream Apple Pie

Good evening! I wanted to quickly share a favorite pie recipe with you. Growing up, we spent every Thanksgiving at my aunt and uncle’s house. They usually have between 20 and 30 people for the meal each year. THE most amazing meal ever, last year including a roasted turkey, smoked turkey, and fried turkey. With all the fixings. I mean all. My mom is in charge of the pies. {she is REALLY good at making pies!!} Her Thanksgiving pies include cherry, apple, lemon meringue, coconut cream, pumpkin, and sour cream apple. In recent years, the sour cream apple pie has become my favorite. This fall will be the first time in my life that I won’t be attending Thanksgiving with my family in Greenville. Yes, it’s very sad, but I am hoping to take some of the Thanksgiving traditions I grew up with into my own family, including this AMAZING pie!

Pie Ingredients

1 unbaked 9″ pie crust (I used a frozen pie crust)

2 TB all-purpose flour

1/8 tsp salt

3/4 cup granulated sugar

1 egg

1 cup sour cream

1 tsp vanilla

1/4 tsp nutmeg

2 cups diced apples

Crumb Topping Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup packed brown sugar

1 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp salt

6 TB unsalted butter, room temperature

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

2. Combine the crumb topping ingredients (flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt). Cut in butter with a pastry blender. Set aside.

3. For pie filling, combine flour, salt, and sugar. Add egg, sour cream, vanilla, and nutmeg.

4. Beat (by hand) to a smooth, thin batter. Blend in apples and pour into pie crust.

5. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes, then at 350 for 30 minutes.

6. Remove from oven and top with crump topping (it’s going to look like a lot of topping, and it is) πŸ™‚

7. Bake for 10 minutes at 400 degrees.

This pie is meant to be eaten chilled. Let it cool completely and place in the fridge for several hours or overnight. Top with whipped cream (and maybe some caramel sauce)! ENJOY!
